
The Welsh town of Usk is located within the area of Monmouthshire and the town is located about ten miles to the northwest of Newport. The town of Usk is best known for its rural location and its quite and tranquil lifestyle. The town of Usk is actually more like a village than a town but it is classed under statistics as a town. The River Usk flows through the town and an ancient stone built bridge spans it. There is a castle located above the town and it overlooks the border crossing that dates back to the ancient Anglo times. The town of Usk has a population of about two thousand five hundred. The town is well known for its vast number of restaurants, public houses and antique shops. There is a large number of people that drive to the town from Newport and even further afield so that they are able to enjoy a meal away from the bustling cities. The main street within the town is a narrow street that features a number of old houses, public houses, restaurants, shops and other business and some of the premises date back as far as the fifteenth century.
The area that is known as Usk Island is a park that was named after the island that is located within the middle of the river. The park is mainly a grassy area that is surrounded by woodland. The park is a very popular location for quite strolls and picnics. There is also a large adventure playground area within the park.
