St Michael-le-Belfry | |
| Situated just to the south of York Minster, whose belfry gives the church its name, there has been a church on this site for many hundreds of years. However the present building that you see today dates from the 16th century. Most famously this is the church where Guy Fawkes was christened - the man who led a plot to blow up London's Parliament in the 16th century. Today the church contains some good examples of medieval stained glass, and an extensive collection of 17th century brassware. However you will have to time it right to have a look inside for the church is only open on Sundays. |
