York Town Guide, White Rose of York, 1K Fairfax House York Town Guide, White Rose of York, 1K

In amongst all of York's medieval architecture, you will find a delightful surprise on Castlegate - Fairfax House.

Built in 1762, it is an excellent example of elegant Georgian architecture and it contrasts dramatically with York's numerous more austere medieval buildings.

The house is now a museum dedicated to the decorative arts. It contains a wonderful collection of ornate furniture and sumptuous furnishings, much of it from the home of Joseph Terry the chocolate manufacturer.

Fairfax House is open daily (except Fridays) from March to December, but hours vary according to day and time of year so check in advance for opening hours. Entry costs around £3.50 for adults.
