| The elegant neo-classical building dates from early 19th century, when it was designed by Charles Barry, the famous architect who also built London's Houses of Parliament. The gallery is home to an excellent collection of art, and is particularly renowned for its paintings by pre-Raphaelite artists such as Ford Madox Brown. Other highlights of the collection include works by Gainsborough, Turner and Constable. The gallery also hosts a programme of temporary exhibitions. The Manchester City Art Gallery is open daily from 10am to 5.45pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 2pm to 5.45pm on Sundays. Admission is free. | ||
