Holborn District

WC1, EC4
Nearest Tube: Chancery Lane

Holborn is a small district of central London sandwiched between the City and Westminster. The name comes from the River Holbourne that once flowed through the district.

Because of its location - The City is the financial centre of London whilst Westminster is the royal and political centre of London - Holborn has also had an important role throughout its past.

For Holborn has been the heart of the British legal system since the 13th century. As a result the district is dominated by the Inns of Court where, to this day, every barrister in England and Wales must have studied.
