Chiswick House

Burlington Lane, W4
Nearest Tube: Chiswick

This mansion was built in 1729 by Lord Burlington, who based his design on the Rotunda in Vicenza. Today the house and grounds are administered by English Heritage.

Particularly impressive is the interior which is decorated and furnished in a flamboyant and ornate baroque style. Also worth seeing are the gardens which are laid out with statues, temples obelisks and even sphinxes dotted around.

Chiswick House is open daily from April to September from 10am-6pm, and from Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am-4pm for the rest of the year. Admission costs around £3 for adults.
