Beating the Retreat

Horse Guards Building, Whitehall, SW1
Nearest Tube: Charing Cross

This annual military ceremony, involving the bands of the Household Cavalry and Guards Division, takes place on three evenings in May or June each year. The 'retreat' takes place to sound of their beating drums, hence the name of the parade. So for anyone who likes loud, noisy parades, this is the one for you.

As with all of London's military parades, this ceremony is extremely popular so you will have to book tickets well in advance.

Other military ceremonies in London include the Changing of the Guard, the Horse Guards Parade and the Trooping of the Colour.
