Glasgow Town Guide, St Mungo's Museum of Religious Life and Art, 2K

This excellent and award-winning Museum, appropriately located opposite Glasgow Cathedral in Cathedral Square, is well worth a visit.

The collection comprises art and paraphernalia from all of the world's major religions, combining to make an extremely interesting exploration of the subject.

There is also a section dedicated to the history of religion in Glasgow, a city famous for its secular divisions, most visible in the intense rivalry between the Protestant Rangers and the Catholic Celtic football teams.

St Mungo's Museum of Religious Life and Art is open daily from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free.

The Glasgow School of Art is located on Renfrew Street in the Merchant City area of the city.

The school's most famous past student is the architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose influence can be seen all over the city.

Appropriately enough the school is now housed in a building that Mackintosh designed, and it is considered by many to be one of the best examples of his work in Glasgow.

The interior of the school can be viewed by guided tours every day except Sundays, at a cost of around £3.50 for adults. Check in advance for the times of available tours.

Scotland Street School, located in the south of the city, is one of Glasgow's lesser known tourist attractions, but it is well worth a visit.

It is a lovely museum that traces the history of education in Glasgow this century, covering everything from classrooms, to subject content, to playground games.

And it is also significant in that the building was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and it is considered by many to be one of the best examples of his work in the whole city.

Scotland Street School is open daily from 10am and 5pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 2pm to 5pm on Sundays. Admission is free.
