Pittville Park is an extensive area of parkland located to the north of Cheltenham High Street. It takes its name from Joseph Pitt, a wealthy businessman who once owned the estate.

The park has plenty for everyone for it contains some elegant gardens, a children's play area, a boating lake and some aviaries.

However it is most famous for being home to the Pittville Pump Room. Built in the 1820's as a spa, this is considered Cheltenham's best example of Regency architecture.

Today you can still "take the waters" at the Pump Room, but be warned - the water is alkaline and so tastes very salty!

In addition the Pump Room is used most weekends for afternoon teas, concerts and recitals, which are well worth attending in order to experience what life must have been like in 18th century Cheltenham.

Today the Pump Room is also home to an excellent Costume Museum, part of the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum.

Here you can see wonderful exhibitions of clothing and accessories through the ages, with of course an excellent collection from the Regency period.

The Costume Museum is open daily except on Tuesdays, from 11am to 4pm. Admission costs around £1.50 for adults.
