Town Guide

"Brighton ...
always looks so brisk, gay, and gaudy,
like a harlequin's jacket...."
William Thackeray, Vanity Fair

Brighton Town Guide, Palace Pier, 11K

Brighton is one of England's most popular seaside resorts, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

First popular during the Regency period, it was once one of the most fashionable towns in England and today Brighton still has some excellent examples of Regency architecture.

However the town is just as closely associated with the "kiss-me-quick" seaside atmosphere that is so uniquely British.

Indeed many visitors see this mixture of the sophisticated and the shabby as part of the town's attraction and argue that it is the reason for Brighton's enduring appeal.

There is plenty to see and do, ranging from a vibrant nightlife, to excellent cultural venues and fashionable eating-places. And being within easy reach of London, there is a lively, cosmopolitan feel to the town.

Use our handy A-Z to find out what there is to see and do in Brighton.
