Stockton on Tees an English town, which is located within northeast England within the area that is known as Tees Valley. The town has a population of about one hundred and eighty five thousand eight hundred and eighty.

The Stockton on Tees borough is made up of the town of Stockton on Tees and the surrounding smaller areas such as Ingleby Barwick, Billingham, Yarm, Norton and also Thornaby-on-Tees. The airport that is known as Tees Valley is located in part of the borough of Stockton on Tees. The borough of Stockton on Tees makes up the biggest number of residents that live within the urban area of Hartlepool and Teesside.

A lot of the town at one time was part of the ancient county of Durham however the borough actually spread across the river into the area of Yorkshire. On the 1st April 1974 the borough was first formed and it was formed from the county borough of Teeside and also from part of the rural district of Stockton.

The economy within the town is mainly formed by the various businesses within the services and industry sector. There is a small amount of agriculture around the surrounding areas of the town.

Over the years the main industries within the town have included steel works, chemical works and ship repairing. The town is probably best known for its association with the railway of Stockton and Darlington and the first passenger steam train operated on this railway line during 1825.

During the twentieth century the heavy industry sectors declined within the town and this is when the main sector within the town switched over to the services sector.
