The city is an ancient medieval town and as such borders a fortress. King David the first created Stirling as a Royal burgh in 1130 and it remained so until 1975. In 1975 the county of Stirlingshire was taken in as part of the Central Region. In 2002 Stirling was given city status as part of the Golden Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth the second.
The main employers within the city of Stirling are the financial sectors and the tourism sector. The financial sector includes things such as insurance companies and one of the biggest companies within this sector is the Prudential and they have a well-established base on the outskirts of the city of Stirling. Within the tourism sector some of the biggest employers are Stirling Castle and the National Wallace Monument. There is also a lot of nearby attractions that employ a large number of staff such as Blair Drummond Safari Park.
Stirling is a very popular tourist area within the country of Scotland as it offers a vast amount of scenery, which is something that Scotland is known for and this is one of the reasons that so many people travel to this area every year.
