The English town of Sittingbourne is located in the country of Kent. The industrial town of Sittingbourne is located about eight miles to the east of the area of Gillingham close to Roman Watling Street. The town of Sittingbourne is a rapidly growing town due to its large number of residential developments and also its main railway network with London.

The name of the town came from the fact that there is a small stream running underground through part of the town and this stream is also referred to as a bourne.

The northern part of Kent which is where the town of Sittingbourne is located is rich in chalk and this is not found in any other place within Europe in such volumes. The volume of chalk naturally led to a vast number of cement manufacturers within the local area and this industry still flourishes in this area today. The cement manufactures got barges made to move both the raw materials and the finished products into London and the Thames and also further away. The town of Sittingbourne was ideally located for the purpose of barge building and this also became a popular industry within the local area.

The town of Sittingbourne has a local football team and they play their matches at Bourne Park. Bourne Park is an old training pitch that is located behind the main stadium that is known as Central Park. Central Park Stadium is used for greyhound racing. The local football team plays within the South Division One league that is sponsored by Ryman.
