The English town of Ramsgate is located in the Isle of Thanet, which is in the eastern part of Kent. The town of Ramsgate is a seaside location very popular with tourists and in fact it was one of the greatest seaside towns during the nineteenth century. This town is also a part of the very old confederation of the ports of Cinque.

The town of Ramsgate has an approximate population of about forty thousand. The coastline is one of the main attractions in Ramsgate. The main industries in the town include fishing and tourism. Ramsgate has a marina that is amongst the biggest marinas on the south coast of England and the area of Port Ramsgate has for several years provided a cross channel ferry route.

Ramsgate originally started as a farming and fishing hamlet. The harbour is a defining characteristic within the town. The work on the construction of the harbour during 1749 was completed by 1850. This harbour is distinct from others, as it is the only harbour with Royal status within the United Kingdom. This harbour is a royal harbour due to its location as it is close to the mainland of Europe.

The town of Ramsgate has a thriving marina with over eight hundred moorings and a wide range of other marine related businesses many of which operate in the renovated arches that are under the Royal Parade. The town caters for students that are learning English as a foreign language at the local college.
