The Scottish market town of Nairn is located within the area covered by the Highland Council. The town of Nairn is a former burgh and also an ancient fishing port. The town of Nairn is located about sixteen miles east of Inverness. The town was once the county town of the wider county of Nairn.

The town of Nairn is a very popular tourist destination as it is a seaside resort. The town has a vast number of things to offer including two golf courses, a small museum and a small theatre. The small museum within the town offers a wide range of information on the local area and it also incorporates a vast array of collections from what was once the Fishertown museum.

During 1645 and the War that was known as the Three Kingdoms the Auldearn battle was fought near the town of Nairn and this war was between the Convenanters and the Royalists.

It was during the 1860's that the town of Nairn became a very popular tourist location. As this town was popular a doctor by the name of John Grigor was given a house as a gift within the town and he actually spent most of his retirement here there is a statue situated at Viewfield in memory of the doctor. The town is valued for its warm climate and this is one of the reasons that Dr Grigor enjoyed the area and encouraged his patients to holiday there.
