Morecambe is a small town located in Lancashire, England, near to Morecambe Bay. The town was once a booming, thriving town due to the Midland Railroad placing a station in the town. Though the railway has since shut down and no longer travels through the town, it is still a resort town due to its location near the seaside. The city has had it ups and downs over the past century, but its popularity is growing once again thanks to the revamped Morecambe beauty contest and the newly remodeled Midland Hotel. The Midland Hotel is a high-class, luxury hotel full of priceless art deco. Over the past few years, it has had a full restoration and new additions have been built as well as a new swimming pool and spa.
There are a variety of other things to do and see while in Morecambe. The promenade runs five miles along the beach in front of Morecambe Bay. There are many sites to see along this stretch including: Midland Grand Hotel, Clock Tower, Stone Jetty, Lifeboat Station, and Happy Mount Park. The promenade is straight and flat so you may have to share the road with bikers. The Stone Jetty extends out into the bay and was once a breaking point for ships; there is a large variety of bird life living there and can be quite fascinating to watch. Happy Mount Park signifies the end of the promenade, and is a large family-oriented park.
If you are not into sites and/or history of the town there are a few local hangouts to check out. The Platform was once a station, but now is a theatre which boasts live music and comedy. The dome also has live music but also a cinema and bowling alley. Finally for a really good time, check out the laser tag centre, Megazone, which is located in a converted Music Hall. Morecombe was once a thriving Railroad town, but has continued to reinvent itself over the years to remain a popular tourist attraction to this day.
