Melton Mowbray is an English town located within the borough of Melton in the county of Leicestershire. The town of Melton Mowbray is about fourteen miles northeast of the town of Leicester and it is about eighteen miles southeast of the city of Nottingham. The town of Melton Mowbray has grown dramatically since 1801, as the population was only one thousand seven hundred and sixty six in 1801.
In 1964 the town of Melton Mowbray became the home of the association for the research of production engineering within the United Kingdom. The association was based on Nottingham Road and it employed about four hundred people. The association was responsible for supporting the development and research within the industry. The town of Melton Mowbray is also home to the advisory service for manufacturing within the East Midlands. During 2000 the regional assembly for the East Midlands was based on the Nottingham Road.
In 1951 the company called Chappie Ltd came to the town. This company is concerned with the production of pet foods. The company once employed about two thousand people however with the invention of modern technology the company has reduced the number of employees and now employs about one thousand people. In 2002 the company changed its name to Masterfoods. The company makes about four million different pet food items per day within the Melton Mowbray factory.
