Macclesfield is an English market town that is located in the area of Cheshire. The town of Macclesfield has a population of about fifty thousand six hundred and eighty eight. This town is the largest settlement within the borough of Macclesfield and the tow is also the home to the administrative centre for the borough. A person that comes from Macclesfield is commonly known as a Maxonian.

Thornton Square is located within a residential part of Macclesfield. Thornton Square came into the public eye via the media in 2002. This area was in the media as it was covered with policemen that spent eighteen months patrolling the areas and this led to the issuing of a lot of anti social behaviour orders to young people. The young people that were issued with these orders were accused of a number of offences including threatening, stealing, verbally abusive behaviour to name a few of the crimes.

Macclesfield is represented within the parliamentary constituency and this covers both the town and the surrounding area. Sir Nicholas Winterton who was first elected in 1971 currently represents the town at the level of local government.

The headquarters of the borough council of Macclesfield is located within the town hall in the town. The conservative party holds both the council seat and the parliamentary seat and they have done since 1918 and they have held overall control since 1976.

The whole of the borough of Macclesfield is twinned with the German area of Eckernforde. There are a vast number of attractions within the town and these include the local Macclesfield football club.
