The town of Lockerbie has a town hall, which is a great example of the Scottish baronial style of buildings, and it is built from the red sandstone that is typical of the area. The town hall within the town overlooks the war memorial that was built after the Second World War. The war memorial is characterised by the bronze angel statue that is located on the top of the memorial.
The town was historically a main location for the trading of both sheep and cattle due to its closeness to the English border. The trade of cattle within England dominated the economy within the town for a very long time. Nowadays the town is still home to auctions of sheep.
The town of Lockerbie was the place that was bombed during 1988 on the 21st of December. The bomb was placed on the Pan Am Flight 103 and it crashed within the town killing eleven local people and two hundred and seventy people that were on the aircraft.
