The English district of Ilford is located within the borough of Redbridge whish is a borough in London. The district of Ilford is a suburban development that is located about nine miles to the north east of the area that is known as Charing Cross. The district of Ilford was once known as Great Ilford and this was so that it could be separated from the nearby area of Little Ilford. The district of Ilford is located within the borough of Newham that is located in London.
The district of Ilford is surrounded on the west by the circular road that heads north. Ilford is bordered with the River Roding. The district of Ilford is surrounded by the areas of Barking in the south, Gants Hill in the north and also Seven Kings to the eastern side of the district. The district of Ilford is home to the Ilford Cricket Club.
Over the years Ilford has expanded and by 1653 the village was compact and consisted of fifty houses, which were mainly located to the north and south of the town. By 1801 the population of Ilford was one thousand seven hundred and twenty four and then 1841 it had grown even bigger and had a population of about three thousand seven hundred. During 1839 the railway station was opened within the district of Ilford and it was opened on the main Great Eastern Line.
This area is best known of the being the location for the murder of Percy Thompson that took place in 1922 within the area that is known as Kensington Gardens.
