The Village

Nether Wallop and its sister village Over Wallop are hidden in the beautiful valley of the Wallop Brook, which flows into the River Test and are both picture book examples of a typical English village with thatched cottages, manor houses and winding village streets. Nether Wallop was chosen as the setting for the Agatha Christie's 'Miss Marples' TV series. It also has a beautiful 11C. Church famous for its rare Anglo-Saxon drawings.

Middle Wallop is the home of the Army Air Corps and has the biggest grass airfield in Europe. There is an excellent Army Air Museum well worth visiting.

Eating Out

There are two pubs in the village, The George by the Wallop Crossroads, and The Five Bells, five minutes walk away. Both have good food. There are also many attractive pubs and restaurants in Stockbridge and a well known tea-room, an authentic French restaurant and a Chinese. So, there is a good choice.

If guests do not feel like going out, we are very happy to provide an evening meal with wine but we do need 24-hour notice. We can also provide picnics and packed lunches - again with 24 hour notice.

Things to do and local attractions

We are centrally situated for visiting many historic and famous places and are a perfect base for exploring Southern England. The Cathedral Cities of Salisbury and Winchester and Stonehenge are only 20 minutes drive away. Bath, Newbury, Windsor, Isle of Wight are but a few places to visit by the day from here.

We are a good stop-over for those touring The West Country.

We are in one of the best known trout fishing areas of the country.

We are in the middle of the Test Valley, walking and cycling tracks and paths and can offer secure cycle storage, large drying room for clothes and packed lunches (with notice). We have beautiful walks nearby, taking from 1/2 hour to all day!

Stockbridge, once famous for its local race course attended by the then Prince of Wales and Lillie Langtry, but now famous for the River Test trout fishing, tantalising antique and gift shops, its tea-room and old pubs, is only 10 minutes drive away.
