| Already one of the most popular hotels on the Island, the award winning Wight Hotel is now under new and enthusiastic management. Whilst retaining all those points that make so many guests return year after year there is now the intent and ability to introduce the innovations that will secure the hotel's future - as the place to holiday or take a short break in the beautiful Isle of Wight! We do not have sea views. Instead we are set in secluded grounds of 2.5 acres - thus avoiding night-time noise from the High Street and Esplanade. Yet the Wight is just 2 minutes very gentle stroll from the sea and Sandown beach, possibly another minute to the shops. And those grounds have been put to good use to give guests so much in the way of amenities - in good or bad weather! Obviously the mandatory free car park - plus a decent sized indoor heated pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, solarium, games room, trimnasium, dedicated snooker room and sun terrace. Add in a large and pleasant bar with a dance floor and regular entertainment. Enhance with what is probably the best breakfast menu you will ever be offered on the Isle of Wight. Then season with the fact that the owners have the confidence in their catering standards to eat every night on a restaurant table which every guest must pass! Quite simply, you have found the right IOW hotel - it's called The Wight! |
| Our promise to you All photographs are accurate - none have been "dressed" for false effect and we did not use wide angle lenses to make the rooms, pool etc look larger than reality - our belief is that guests should be pleasantly surprised on arrival rather than in any way disappointed. We promise to do everything possible to make your stay a resounding success.John Amor & Fran Size |
| Accommodation We have 41 comfortably furnished and well appointed rooms, varying in style and size from single right through to family suites - some of which are suitable for up to 6. Additionally we also have some superior rooms and even "Four Poster" and Honeymoon suites. But whatever your requirement or choice every room has it's own en-suite facilities, colour TV, radio, WIFI internet access for your laptop, hospitality tray, hairdryer and a digital safe. Cleanliness and attention to detail are under the watchful eye of our Housekeeper, Looge McDonald, who trained at the Park Lane Hotel, London and who has been with us for 17 years. Please note that as from January 2007 all bedrooms are strictly "No Smoking".
Typical Double and Twin bedded rooms With their en-suite facilities the Wight's Double and Twin Bedded Rooms vary between 13 and 17 sq. meters. Some of the en-suites are based on showers whilst others have baths. Treble Rooms (not pictured) With facilities our Treble rooms are about 17 sq. meter and are fitted with one double bed and one single bed. Standard Family Rooms (not pictured) Fitted with a double bed plus a set of bunk beds and, with their en-suite facilities, are about 20 sq. meters. Archway Suites Great for those with larger families, these have two separate rooms (both with TV's) which are connected by an arch. The one shown accommodates up to 2 adults and 4 children. Our Archways, including their facilities which are based on baths, vary from 25 up to 34 sq. meters. Four Poster Suites Two views of our Four Poster Suite which, with its en-suite, totals around 24 sq. meters. Leading off from the Suite is an additional room (approx 9 sq. meters) containing twin beds. Family Units (not pictured) We also have several en-suite units consisting of two separate rooms (one with a double bed, the other with either twin beds or a set of bunks, both with TV's) with a connecting door. These afford good privacy but the two rooms share the en-suite facilities which are usually entered via the main (double) room. |
| Access Wight The Wight Montrene starts with a considerable advantage - we have no need for a lift as the hotel is built on just two floors - ground and first - and nearly half of our bedrooms are on the ground floor. We have worked to make the hotel suitable for anyone of limited mobility - but regret that there are still the odd couple of unavoidable steps to be negotiated between the entrance and the bar area and thereafter en route to the games room, the pool and even to some of our ground floor bedrooms. Please also note that none of the Wight's en-suite facilities can be accessed by a wheelchair. Our Food is Outstanding Well that's the general verdict of our clients - and we succeed in satisfying the very healthiest of appetites! We start by using only the best quality fresh produce (sourced locally whenever possible) which is then prepared by our experienced culinary team working from a spotless kitchen where even the walls are stainless steel for complete cleanliness. |
| Our Best of British IOW Restaurant Our Restaurant Manageress Wendy Fowler, who has been with the hotel for 5 years, will welcome you to our spacious restaurant which has comfortable seating for 110 diners. It opens for Breakfast at 8.15am (last orders by 9.45am) and for Evening Dinner at 6.30pm (last orders by 8.00pm). Children may either eat with their parents during that time (choosing from either the adult or child menus) or, if parents prefer, can be served from the children's menu at 6.00pm - please arrange for early meals with the restaurant staff during breakfast or with Reception at the latest by 5.30pm. |
| The Bar at the Wight Hotel Our bar is open all day and is for the exclusive use of hotel clients and those taking meals in our restaurant, thus avoiding the overcrowding and at times rowdy behavior that often occurs in bars which are open to the general public. Alec Merrick, our very popular Bar Manager for the past 3 years, ensures that it is stocked to suit most tastes and features an adequate selection of luxury brand whiskies, cognacs, armagnacs etc.. |
| All Round Entertainment The bar itself divides the room into two distinct sections: one end has seating for around 25 for those who prefer a quiet chat whilst the larger section, seating around 70, has an ample dance area with live entertainment on several evenings each week during most of the year. ![]() Children, provided that they are accompanied by their parents, are allowed in (but please, not at) the bar - but on the clear expectation that their parents will restrain them from running around and spoiling for other guests the enjoyment of what is, by nature and tradition, an adult environment. At the Wight Montrene we have a saying: "We don't mind children - but we do mind parents who don't mind their children!" Whilst most areas of the hotel - Restaurant, T.V. Lounge, the Pool and bedrooms - have for many years been either "No Smoking" or "Please do not smoke", the Bar and the Snooker Room have always been smoking areas. As from 1st July 2007 however English law adopts a complete ban on smoking in any premises which serve food. The Wight has decided that it would be best to commence that rule as from the commencement of the year. Please note therefore that as from January 2007 the hotel will be operating a total ban on smoking in all public rooms, bedrooms and leisure facilities. We greatly hope that this will not inconvenience or upset any of our many returning guests as the rule will be rigorously enforced as from that date. |
| Leisure and Pleasure in the Isle of Wight So far you have been housed, fed and watered. But now is when the Wight Montrene really starts to excel! Hopefully the weather will be good and the beaches, town or many places of interest on the Island may beckon. But alternatively you may prefer a lazy day on our large and attractive Mediterranean style sun terrace with its heated splash pool - great for children or even adult non-swimmers who just want to cool down!. ![]() Whatever the weather, your IOW holiday has something for everyone... But of course, although the Island has better weather than most mainland destinations, this is still Britain and yes, it does occasionally rain! For such occasions (and even for the depths of Winter) our own Indoor Leisure Complex can be relied upon to make your stay a success whatever the weather - indeed some of our guests hardly venture out even when the sun shines! Spacious heated indoor pool The Wight's heated indoor pool has a raised children's section. Open 7-30am - 10.00pm in summer but closes at 7.00pm in the winter months. It is used by Aquarius Divers for several 2 to 3 hour private sessions per week, during which hotel guests are very welcome to spectate. Guests (and children of 8 years and over) can also get involved - either with a pool "Try Dive" or even one of the many courses! IMPORTANT - Please note that we do not supply towels for the pool or other leisure activities - please remember to bring your own. Jacuzzi Open for the same hours as the pool, always very warm and relaxing. For full turbulation there is a coin in the slot meter. Sauna Cabin From 11.00am each day the cabin is run as a saunarium i.e. at around 45oC. From 4.00pm the temperature increases so that from 4.30pm until 6.30pm it is a full sauna at 85/90oC after which it closes. During the "saunarium" times guests may book the cabin for their private use at full sauna temperature - 30 minutes notice is required to attain the heat and the cost is £2.00 per hour. N.B. No children allowed unless with one of their own parents Steam Room Our state of the art 6 seater steam room is available free of charge from 11.00am until 1.00pm each day. Thereafter guests may book it for private use at £2.00 per hour (30 minutes notice required). Again, no children allowed without one of their own parents. Solarium If the weather is not too kind you can always perk up your tan with a little intelligent use of our 48 tube Luxura Delta 500 upright tanning booth - which even has an elevator so that your feet get brown. Tokens are available from reception - obviously no children allowed. Games Room Is open for the same hours as the pool and features a pool table, table football and table tennis. Snooker Room The Wight has a beautiful full-sized dedicated snooker room which guests may use on payment of £5.00 for 4 light-box tokens (about 80 minutes). Children are not normally allowed but consideration will be given to those over 12 years of age who will be playing with a parent. Trimnasium We also have a small trimnasium for use of those guests who feel the need of cardio-vascular exercise (or in order to combat the effects of the Wight's Jurracic Breakfasts!) |
