Wickhaven, 8KThe village of Wickham was known to the Romans, who had a marching camp here. It became a manor under the Anglo Saxons and after the Norman invasion was held by a succession of "Lords of the Manor" until very recently.

People have lived in Wickham for over 4000 years. It has a medieval square with many shops, three Pubs, a Wine Bar, Takeaways and Restaurants, all of which sell excellent food.

There is a 'Dip Hole' which was once the only source of water for the village, located by Chesapeake Mill which stands beside the River Meon, and contains timbers from the American frigate captured by the British Navy in 1813. Bridge Street once housed Queen Elizabeth 1st soldiers in 'The Barracks'.

The Parish Church of St Nicholas dated from 1120 and is open for visitors.
