Two Chimneys is a cottage-style house, the family home of Averil and Eric Garritt who offer a warm welcome and thoughtful and detailed hospitality - we wish all our guests to enjoy a pleasant and comfortable stay. The house is situated in a quiet, tree-lined road in the historic county town of Lewes, about 10 minutes' walk from the High Street. We have one double bedroom with separate, private shower room and one supplementary single bedroom. The rooms are comfortably furnished to a high standard and the house is centrally heated and double-glazed throughout. There is a pleasant, secluded garden and terrace (with Downland views) where breakfast can be served on warm summer days. Guests may relax in the garden at other times during the day if they wish. We offer an extensive range of cooked and continental breakfasts using local, organic produce wherever possible. The east-facing bedrooms and dining-room afford beautiful views of the South Downs and Sussex Weald. Guests have sole use of the dining-room. We have private, off-road car parking for guests. Two Chimneys is a non-smoking, pet-free house and we are sorry that we are unable to accept pets. Walkers are welcome (access to the South Downs Way west of the town may be reached on foot - 15 minutes' walk from the house). We can provide transport to/from the start/finish of local walks, and for onward transmission of luggage (by arrangement). |
| ACCOMMODATION & TARIFF The light double bedroom is well furnished with a comfortable 5 ft bed, colour TV, radio/alarm, and ample storage space. Ironing facilities and hairdryer are always available. There is a separate guest(s)' shower room with electric shower, shaver point, lavatory and washbasin. Cotton sheets, choice of duvets or soft cotton blankets, plenty of comfortable pillows, fluffy white towels and bathrobes add to your comfort.
For guests wishing to have twin accommodation, or for parties of 3 adults, we can also offer an adjacent, single bedroom affording the same views as the double room. This is bright and comfortably furnished with a 3 ft bed, ample storage space, colour TV and radio alarm. Local information including Ordnance Survey maps and books and leaflets on local history, attractions and events are provided. We can give information and advice about visiting places of interest, local walks, National Trust properties and gardens. TARIFF: from £45.00 per person per night. |
| BREAKFAST We offer an extensive choice of breakfasts. These include 4-course full English breakfast, various fish dishes, or continental breakfasts. We use good quality fresh, local and/or organic produce whenever possible, including a variety of fresh, segmented/berry fruits. All our bread is traditionally home-baked from organic, stone-ground flour and is suitable for vegetarians. We serve only free-range eggs. We are happy to cater for special diets (prior notice if possible, please).  Breakfast is served between 7.00 and 10.00 am (or earlier by arrangement). We are happy to prepare your picnic lunches (24 hour notice preferred, please). Refreshments: We serve a variety of freshly-brewed teas, coffees or juices, with biscuits, on arrival and at other times to order, at no additional cost. Bottled water is provided in each room. |
| LEWES: The picturesque town of Lewes, dominated by the ruins of a Norman castle, contains medieval streets, narrow twittens and interesting architecture - including the handsome, timbered House given by Henry VIII to his fourth wife, Ann of Cleves. It still retains many small, specialist shops (antiques, art, crafts, books, jewellers and silversmiths, food, Harvey's Brewery shop etc). There is a good range of restaurants and pubs - some stocking the local ales brewed in the town. Amenities include golf, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and leisure centre, gardens, riverside and downland walks, museum, nature reserves, and horse-riding.
Lewes is an excellent centre from which to tour the Sussex Weald, the South Downs and Heritage coastal areas, and is convenient for Glyndebourne, Charleston Farmhouse, Monk's House (Rodmell), the South Downs Way, Brighton, Eastbourne, and the Universities of Sussex and Brighton. Gatwick Airport is only 30 minutes by car, and there are frequent trains to London, Brighton, Seaford, the port of Newhaven (8 miles) and Eastbourne. There are a number of beautiful National Trust properties and gardens within easy reach, and delightful villages to visit. |
