| Quality B&B accommodation and a well equipped cottage; all with beautiful views and a warm welcome - on the Lizard Peninsula Treleague sits in the sheltered Porthallow Valley, looking down the valley, across Falmouth Bay to Nare Head beyond - on a clear day you can see Bodmin Moor. It is a cosy 17th century barn and cottage half a mile outside the picturesque village of St Keverne. Mark and Carrie and their two boys will give you a warm, friendly welcome to the house which is cool and shady in the summer and warmed by open fires in the winter. Your tasty Cornish breakfast is served with views to the sea as part of the experience.
Treleague is also a perfect base to explore the Helford River (and French-man's Creek), the South West Coast Path, surfing at Fistral Beach in Newquay, art galleries at St Ives, beaches and coves everywhere, golf, fishing, horse riding and lots more. |
| B&B at Treleague The bedrooms at Treleague are spacious and well appointed in an elegant but comfortable rustic style. Being in the heart of the Cornish countryside doesn't mean you have to do without a few little luxuries; Sealy pillow-top mattresses, Egyptian cotton linen, Freeview, flat screen TVs, DVD players, hair dryers, thermostatically controlled radiators and tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk. And for those of you who really cannot bear to be away from it all, your PDA or laptop can access our wireless broadband connection.
All of the rooms are en-suite; some have power showers and others have baths; but all are brand new and very comfortable. Breakfast is served in what used to be the hayloft (the main room) and you can enjoy the views to the sea while you relax over another coffee. Our Cornish breakfast is everything you expect from a full English breakfast but with the popular Cornish addition of Hogs Pudding (much nicer that it sounds!). Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible. We bake our own bread and we grind the coffee beans fresh for each coffee. You could also try some lighter or vegetarian options; our creamy scrambled eggs with smoked salmon always goes down well. |

| Things to do near Treleague The Lizard Peninsula is an undiscovered treasure in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is known for its magnificent coastline, sandy beaches and coves, pretty fishing villages and the wooded valleys and the creeks of the Helford River. Porthallow is 1 mile down the valley from Treleague where you will find a sheltered cove which is great for swimming and fishing. Porthallow has a pub, craft shop, post office and a café on the beach.
The nearby village of St. Keverne has a convenience store, post office, newsagent, two pubs (both do food), an organic restaurant, and a great butchers shop. It is ½ mile up the valley and its elevated position means that the church spire is used by shipping as a guide to avoid the Manacles reef. It is a friendly community set around the village square. Walkers will be delighted with the variety of walks from easy strolls from the front door of the house, right up to challenging stretches of the South West Coats Path which passes a ½ mile to the South East of Treleague. Divers will need no introduction to the excellent diving to be had over the Manacles accessed from Porthkerris just 2 miles away. Surfers will enjoy good surf on many local beaches and the world famous Fistral Beach is at Newquay which is a 40 minutes drive away. For families there are great days out to be had at Flambards theme park, National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, Goonhilly Earth Station - the largest satellite station on earth, Europe's largest helicopter base at RNAS Culdrose and of course the amazing beaches and coves. In addition there are excellent equestrian facilities, golf courses, sea, river and lake fishing. |
| Genial Tranquillity From the moment you come down the Porthallow Valley and pull into the landscaped car park surrounded by ferns, fuscias and lantern trees, walk over the little stone rampart and into the welcoming main room (it was the hayloft) with its views down the valley, you start relaxing. We will make you welcome and show you to your room… Unwind a bit from your journey in your well appointed, ensuite room, freshen up and then come and relax in the music room in front of the fire (in the winter), or (in the summer) sit out on the terrace and watch the yachts reaching in to Falmouth Bay from the Western Approaches. We'll happily chat to you about the wonderful things / to see and do on the Lizard Peninsula, give recommendations as to where to eat or where to find the best pint of Doom Bar or alternatively we'll leave you alone to relax and soak it all in. After a good meal and a drink in one of the local pubs or restaurants, you can retire to bed and try and hear the tawny owls chatting to each other. Some people like to watch the night sky above Treleague; because of the absence of light pollution at Treleague the stars do seem bigger and brighter here. You should sleep well and wake up with an appetite for a good Cornish breakfast. |
