SPECIAL OFFERS October 2007 - April 2008 We offer a 10% discount for stays of two or more consecutive nights. |
'The Limes' is a small, friendly family guest house, originally a spacious Victorian country house. Although it is less than one mile from Junction 40 of the M6 motorway and the A66 trunk road, it is surrounded by peaceful open countryside and enjoys superb views across the Eamont Valley and the Lake District fells. ![]() We like to make our visitors as comfortable as they would be at home, so that they can relax and enjoy their holiday. All the guest bedrooms are provided with tea and coffee making equipment, but we are happy to bring your tea or coffee to our comfortable lounge. All bedrooms have their own en-suite shower or bath and WC |
We serve a full English breakfast or a lighter meal for those who prefer it. Breakfast is normally served 7.30 - 8.30 am but earlier on request. We use fresh local produce in much of our cookery, and take pride in producing a freshly cooked and appetising evening meal(three course plus coffee) for our guests at a reasonable price. We are sorry that dinner is not offered in July/August. Dinner is served at 7.00pm and it does help us if this is ordered in advance, no later than 3.00 P.M. please. Provided that you advise us before hand we will gladly cater for the special needs of vegetarians or children or those on restricted diets. ![]() Families are particularly welcome here, we understand the problems of travelling with children and will happily provide cots and baby equipment and a bedroom which will accommodate the whole family comfortably. Energetic children also appreciate our large garden, as do their tired parents! |
Many of our guests use 'The Limes' as a comfortable and convenient overnight stop, to break a long journey, but we are also excellently situated as a base for a longer holiday in the Lake District. Ullswater, one of England's loveliest lakes, is only four miles away and provides for sailing, rowing, windsurfing and angling - but no speed boats or water-skiers. Despite its immense variety of scenery and activity the Lake District is so compact that any part of can easily be visited on a day tour, as can Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders. ![]() The mountains and fells are an attraction for many tourists, with energetic climbs for the enthusiast but many gentler and beautiful walks for those with less energy and experience. Pony trekking and cycle hire are both available locally, and nearby Penrith has sporting facilities including a golf course and swimming pool. |
We regret the nearest accommodation is the Rheged Visitor Centre, which is a five minute walk away down a quiet lane. All through the summer there are local events and gatherings, many of them particularly Cumbrian in character and all worth a visit - hound trails lakeland sports, sheepdog trials, agricultural shows and many more. The area is rich in craft workshops where visitors can watch local materials being worked and maybe purchase the finished items too. When the summer holidaymakers have gone home we have many guests who come and admire the glorious autumn colours which clothe the fells, and others who prefer the solitude of the Lakes in winter and early spring. We offer special rates to our guests during quiet months, and whenever you choose to visit us we will be ready to welcome you. (October to April 10% discount on rooms for stays of two or more nights). ![]() |
