Since it was built in the 1840s by Yorkshireman, William Drury Lowe, The Grange has enjoyed a truly colourful history. It's been transformed through the years through various guises. Initially a gentleman's residence, it became a family home in the late 1880s. After WW1, The Grange was the scene of many a good party with hunting, shooting and fishing taking their place between a social whirlwind of tennis parties and village fetes held on the lawns.![]() During The Second World War, The Grange was requisitioned by the Land Army during which time many fixtures and fittings, especially mirrors, were destroyed. In 1947, The Grange was sold to the Methodist Missionary Society when it became a residential school for the children of Missionaries abroad. Many of the fireplaces were boarded up, various extensions added and netball courts, mobile homes and basketball hoops took up residence in the grounds. Decor was based on the 'brighter is better' principle so red, yellow, green, blue and orange walls featured heavily throughout the house. We bought The Grange in 1997, and have slowly been restoring the property to its near original state. Period features which have been destroyed over the years have been sourced and replaced, and, if close matches can't be found, reproductions commissioned from local craftsmen. Decoration has been carefully chosen to match the elegance of the original building and finishing touches like period furniture, sourced from fairs and auctions throughout the country. |

| Although restoration of The Grange has been hard and dirty work, some of the most difficult decisions have been choosing fabrics, fittings and colours for the three available guest bedrooms. We wanted to choose natural colour schemes that are sympathetic to the house and its beautiful parkland setting. Hopefully, the end result is a million miles away from when each of the guest bedrooms was a school dormitory! Each of our spacious, non-smoking, bedrooms has a television and tea/coffee making facilities. Each morning, a full English breakfast is served in the dining room.
