The Black Horse Inn, 5KTucked beneath the steep face of the North Downs on the Pilgrims Way is The Black Horse, a homely and welcoming Inn adorned with hops and beams with an open log fireplace to welcome you in winter.

The actual age of the Inn is not known, but in the 18th century it may well have been a forge with adjoining barns and stables owned by the Fuller family. Between 1744 and 1751 the buildings were converted to an inn and given the present name.

Dogs are welcome on a lead and the Inn is open all day, all week, all year!

The Inn has a large car park and can accomodate coaches if required.

There is a network of footpaths and bridle paths in the area used for cyclists, walkers and horse riders with magnificent views.

No juke boxes, fruit machines or karaoke nights.

An annex houses 30 beautiful ensuite bed and breakfast rooms.

All individually furnished and decorated each room having its own characteristics and style and offering wonderful views of the North Downs .

For the comfort of all our guests all rooms are non-smoking and have TV, Complimentary mineral water, Tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and Complimentary morning newspapers in the breakfast room.

The restaurant offers full lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. Booking is advisable.

Finding Us

Location

Situated 1 mile east of the A249 via Detling Village and 3.5 miles north-east of Maidstone Town. Just 5 minutes from the M20 but deep in the heart of the countryside. Do not use sat nav when on A249 (sends traffic wrong side of A249 on Pilgrims Way).

Nearest Railway Station

Bearsted: On foot or bicycle, turn left out of the main station entrance , a few hundred yards along and you will come to a small parade of shops, turn left again here into Thurnham Lane. Follow Thurnham Lane uphill for approximately 1 mile under the railway bridge and motorway. You will eventually reach the crossroads with Pilgrims Way and The Black Horse Inn is on your left.

Fresh crab and prawns in ginger mayonnaise with crispy noodles, spring onions and red pepper oil
