The house and garden have been used in the filming of "All Creatures Great and Small" and the Director and some of the stars stayed here when on location. Areas of unspoilt James Herriot countrylie a few paces away, including the famous Leyburn Shawl. Many important castles and beauty spots such as Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw and Coverdale are within easy reach. Fell walking, pony trekking, golf, trout fishing, rock climbing, game shooting and several race courses are there to be enjoyed.
Hopefully you will return to Secret Garden House to enjoy log fires, comfortable centrally heated en-suite rooms full of atmosphere and antique furniture.
The building of the present house started in 1720, but this was on the site of a 17th Century Tannery. The present owner is a keen local historian and is undertaking considerable research into the origins of the site and an interesting display of archive materials will be mounted for all guests to enjoy at their leisure.

Already documentary evidence has revealed that part of the house was a theatre in 1800 and that Lord Nelson's surgeon Peter Goldsmith (buried in Wensley Churchyard) was a previous owner. |
