"Built by the second Duke Of Sutherland as a coaching inn, the hotel stands on the site of an old fortified house looking towards the sheltered waters and white sands of Scourie bay. The inn at Scourie where the Great Scottish Naturalist Charles St. John stayed in the 1840's is slightly larger now.The rooms, most of which have views to Scourie Bay or the distant tops of Ben Stack, Foinaven and Arkle are all comfortable and well appointed; two are very large family rooms with mesmeric views. All bedrooms have heating, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers and razor sockets, but definitely no televisions. Radios are however available on request.

To connoisseurs of game fishing there is simply nothing to compare to the 25,000 acres of Loch, River and Hill Loch fishing held for the guests of Scourie Hotel. The Hotel has 36 fishing beats held exclusively for guests plus 3 beats on Loch Stack and Loch More for sea trout and salmon. Additional salmon fishing is taken on local salmon rivers.

There is far more to Sutherland than its Game Fishing alone. Easily accessible from Scourie Hotel is Handa Island, an ornithological delight. Boats sail several times a day (in summer) from Tarbet to both circumvent and land on the island (if the weather permits !). It is owned and managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and is a very important bird reserve providing sanctuary and breeding colonies for many species.

The area is also a mecca for Geologists and sightseers and has a waterfall four times higher than Niagara. Walkers will find gentle walks for the the younger or less energetic as well as more strenuous hikes for the more adventurous. For many, the magnificent scenery and chance to walk in the deserted , rugged landscape is to much to resist which sees them returning year after year.
