Stay With Us

In the nineteenth century, when Port Gaverne was a bustling trading port, the building that is now the Port Gaverne Hotel was a large inn, popular with villagers and ship workers alike. Our warm, cosy inn remains, and this, together with our superb restaurant, is the hub of the village. Our rooms have been transformed into high quality en-suite hotel rooms without losing their traditional and quirky character, meaning that guests can relax in complete comfort.

Our well-stocked bar, with its slate floors, low wooden beams, and roaring log fire, serves a wide range of good real ale and freshly prepared food. Our restaurant specialises in freshly caught seafood and locally sourced ingredients - here you will be served excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere. And, when you stay with us, you'll enjoy a delicious breakfast cooked completely to order. To find out more about dining with us here click onto our web site.

What truly makes the Port Gaverne Hotel special is the quality of service that our guests enjoy. All of our staff will go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful visit, providing a friendly, warm, and flexible service. We're grateful to have received many testimonials from our guests.

Whether you choose a traditional Ploughman's from our bar menu, served with Cornish Yarg and chutney, the local Cornish crab salad, or the Thermidor Lobster from our restaurant menu, we guarantee that you'll find all of our food fresh, filling, and, without fail, delicious.

Our Head Chef, Ian Brodey, has been at the Port Gaverne Hotel for over thirty years. Ian believes that good, home-cooked food, using the freshest ingredients sourced locally, simply cannot be beaten. Highlights include our freshly baked bread, fish landed almost on the doorstep, home made Petit Fours and daily changing specials. Get a taste of what we can offer by having a look at menus

Our Location

We all want the best of both worlds. A quiet and peaceful spot where we can really get away from it all. Time and space to walk on the beach without disturbance, wander between rock pools, relax in a sunny garden, and eat delicious food.

At the same time, we like to be close to bustling villages and towns, stunning country houses, great sweeps of coastline and the very best that North Cornwall has to offer. Port Gaverne is the perfect location if you want all this and more.

This secluded cove is just five minutes walk from Port Isaac, a fourteenth century fishing village with winding lanes, whitewashed cottages and a wide range of restaurants. There are numerous walks along the coastline, which is famed for its beauty, and a huge sandy beach at Polzeath only five miles away.

Things to do

North Cornwall is one of the last unspoilt places in Britain, packed full of places to visit and things to do. Here is a selection, and of course, we'll be happy to help you with advice when you visit.

Places to visit

There are many wonderful properties and gardens owned by the National Trust. Do take time to have a look at their website - if only to plan for a rainy day: www.nationaltrust.org.uk

Lanhydrock house and gardens - Lanhydrock is the jewel in the crown for The National Trust. It is a magnificent late Victorian country house and was home to the Agar-Robartes family. There are also large formal and woodland gardens with breathtaking magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons.

Tintagel - famous for its ruined 13th century castle, is tied to the legend of King Arthur. Treat your imagination by visiting the castle, set high on the rugged coastline, together with the nearby Merlin's Cave. At Tintagel you will also find 'The Old Post Office', a rare example of a fourteenth century dwelling, with a slate roof that heaves and rolls like the sea.

Prideaux Place - Situated just out of Padstow, Prideaux Place is well worth a visit. It is a beautiful Elizabethan Manor house, home to the Prideaux Brunes. www.prideauxplace.co.uk

Bodmin Wenford Railway - For steam enthusiasts, the Bodmin Wenford railway is definitely worth a visit. The only standard gauge railway in Cornwall makes it a very special day out. You can take a thirteen mile round trip, starting from the authentic 1950's station at Bodmin. www.bodminandwenfordrailway.co.uk

Pencarrow House - This has been the family home of the Molesworth St Aubyns for nearly five hundred years. The house is approached down a mile long drive flanked by blue hydrangeas and rhododendrons. The house is set in fifty acres of gardens with sweeping views down the valley. Within the house are superb collections of art and outstanding porcelain. www.pencarrow.co.uk

Activities

Golf - Rated as one of the top links courses in the UK, St. Enodoc boasts superb all year round conditions and beautiful coastal view. For more information do look at their website: www.st-enodoc.co.ukThere are several other local golf courses suitable for all ages and abilities. A good point of reference is www.golfincornwall.co.uk

Water sports - You can't come to Cornwall and not have a go at surfing. Polzeath beach, five miles away, is a mecca for surfers. We can highly recommend the Animal Surf Academy. These guys will endeavour to get you riding the waves in your first lesson. They have all the kit too, wetsuits and boards to hire. Call 0870 2422856 or visit www.wavehunters.co.uk. Do check at reception to see what good deals we can offer.

Water Skiing - At the Camel Ski School they can offer all standards of skiing and wakeboarding. They aim to provide their clients with a memorable and enjoyable experience. For those that just want fun, fun, fun they also have a banana ride. Call 01208 862727 or visit www.camelskischool.com

Cycling - The Camel Trail is located in Wadebridge, just a few miles away. We have used Bridge Bike Hire for years. They provide a great service to get you on your way. The Camel trail follows the old LSWR railway line so it is essentially flat and off road. Look out for the last bit from Wadebridge to Bodmin. You have been warned! Call 01208 813050 or visit www.cornwall.gov.uk and www.bridgebikehire.co.uk

Pony Trekking - How about spending the afternoon riding across Bodmin Moor? At Hallagenna Farm you can do just that. You could explore the rocky tors, mysterious moorland and calm woodlands. Or hack over to the Blisland Inn for a restful refreshment break and ride back with renewed confidence. Get in touch either by phone on 01208 851500 or visit www.hallagenna.co.uk
