| Set in the picturesque valley of the River Wharfe at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, this pretty spa town offers a wide range of activities to the discerning traveller. The beautiful countryside is perfect for walking and outdoor pursuits whilst the tree-lined streets in the town are highly regarded for their quality shops, cafes and restaurants.
Ilkley is steeped in history dating back to AD 79 when the Romans arrived and built a fort. It remained a sleepy hamlet right up until the 19th century when it became fashionable to take the water and Ilkley quickly grew into an elegant spa town.
Evidence of this era remains in the form of White Wells Cottage, an old stone bathhouse nestled into the moor which dates back to 1690. The Manor House Museum traces Ilkleys history from prehistoric times and houses an art gallery.
