All rooms have colour television, tea/coffee making facilities and hair dryers. there is garden to the rear with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside and a large verandah. There is an excellent pub in the village for meals, and many others in the surrounding area including the Barrell at Bretton, reputedly one of England's oldest pubs. |
The magnificent scenery of the Peak district remains unspoiled and unrivalled by any other county. Its combination of moorland and lush green river valleys with many miles of well-marked footpaths makes this a walkers' paradise. Other amenities in the area include horse riding, climbing and gliding.![]() Within a short distance are the famous houses of Chatsworth and Haddon with their beautiful grounds. Also the caves at Castleton, famous for the "Blue John". The old market town of Bakewell is fifteen minutes drive away and slightly further afield are the spa towns of Matlock Bath and Buxton. Many of the old Peakland traditions are still very strong and are practised today, the most famous of which is well dressing which most of the villages in the area celebrate throughout the summer months. ![]() The village of Eyam, made famous by the Great Plague, still bears much evidence of the sacrifices made by its inhabitants. Within the village is the beautiful old church, village stocks, and an award-winning museum. Historic Eyam Hall has a courtyard of small craft shops and a tearoom. |
