A farmhouse in 1745 and licensed in 1812, this nautically themed hotel has been managed by the present owner's family for over ninety years. Warmly welcoming, it is both an excellent place for visitors and boasts a pub of some local, national and international esteem. Popular bar foods include locally caught seafood, freshly made sandwiches, delicious home made crab or vegetable soups and wholesome daytime meals that extend into the evenings, complemented by a fine selection of puddings, pastries and pies. |
The hotel offers four poster, double and single rooms, all en-suite, tastefully decorated and thoughtfully equipped. The bedrooms are individually themed and have recently been stylishly upgraded. They all include TV, refreshments facilities and direct dial telephones. Why not ask for a room with a sea view in the harbour annex. |
As you meander the hotel's corridors and boat gallery, you will find them bulging at the seams with antique nautical memorabilia that shine like jewels. Even those not particularly nautically minded could not fail to enjoy this treasure trove of genuine seafaring mementos. The main saloon bar has tremendous character, lit by stained glass windows and the welcoming glow of an open fire. Among the memorabilia is the name plate from the Forfarshire of Grace Darling fame. There is another snug low-beamed cabin bar and a small family room. Outside in the harbour garden you can try your hand at putting or a traditional game of quoits. The Conviviality of the customers and the friendly efficiency of the staff make the Olde Ship one of the most pleasant places to linger in the North East. It is an atmospheric gem of seafaring nostalgia offering friendly and swift service to all who walk her decks. Morning papers and postcards are available at reception as are details of excursions, places to visit and things to do. There are two car parks at the rear of the hotel. |
