"Oh! Who can ever be tired of Bath?"

Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

The story of Bath starts in 500 B.C. when the hot springs were first discovered. Bubbling up at a constant temperature of 46.5 degrees centigrade these magical waters have attracted people since Roman times. Today's visitors can see some of the most important Roman remains in Britain.

In 973 Edgar was crowned first King of England, at a ceremony in Bath Abbey. During the Middle Ages Bath was a walled city, but with the arrival of the Georgain Era Bath flourished and expanded providing us with such architectural delights as the Royal Crescent, Circus, and Great Pulteney Street.

Bath is also a modern city; busy and thriving with many fine restaurants, tea shops and wine bars. The beautifully restored Theatre Royal presents a wide range of entertainment, and the elegant shopping centre caters for all tastes. Bath's museums are many and varied, and to visit a Museum of Costume should not be missed.

Bath's architectural heritage is world renowned, and each summer it is complemented by magnificent floral displays, which are regular award winners.

Surrounded by beautiful Cotswolds and Mendips, and within easy reach of the historic city of Wells, Glastonbury, and Cheddar Gorge, Bath is an ideal centre for both long and short holidays and Oakleigh is the ideal place to stay in Bath.
