The Guest House is run by the owners and has been tastefully renovated to retain much of the original character. Cosy and rambling with a friendly atmosphere.
Monkgate Guest House was originally three cottages built around 1804 for a wood carver and cabinet maker. It is a grade 2 listed building. We are just outside the ancient city walls of York on Monkgate and well situated for York Minster and the main city area, so convenient for business or pleasure. |

Our dining room is comfortably furnished with a sitting area for you to meet or wait for friends. We serve freshly coked breakfast on our Aga, and also on request a continental breakfast to your room. For dinner there are many excellent restaurants and historic inns all within walking distance. Why not try one of the Ghost Walks at night or take a leisurely stroll along the river embankment calling for an evening drink at one of hundreds of York's Public Houses.
All our bedrooms are individually furnished with colour television and tea and coffee making facilities. Our rooms are en-suite or have private facilities. We also have a ground floor bedroom that can be used as a quiet hideaway for a couple, or makes a lovely room for a family of four. Limited car parking space is available.
York is renowned for its beautiful medieval and Georgian buildings and there is so much to see and do! Apart from the many attractions including the Shambles. The Jorvik Centre and the Railway Museum, to name just a few, you have all the wonderful shops and restaurants at your disposal all within easy walking distance of Monkgate Guest House. Most weeks York is host to an event i.e. The Viking Festival in February or the Food and Drink Festival in September. At Christmas the whole city comes alive with the colourful lights and bustling street fairs.

| Perhaps you could catch one of the tour buses from Monkgate to take you around York and you can hop on and off as you wish. You may wish to venture further afield as you are only a short distance from the North Yorkshire Moors, the seaside resorts of Whitby and Scarborough or the many stately homes including Castle Howard and Beningbrough. If you do not have access to a vehicle, there are many day trips from York that we can help you arrange. |
