The Metropole sits on the brow of a hill overlooking Padstow and offers the most magnificent views out over the Camel Estuary available in the town. It's also one of the only hotels to offer reasonable parking facilities on site.

It is a beautiful Victorian-inspired building with 58 individually decorated bedrooms in varying styles. The hotel is known for its friendly ambience and is a welcome from home no matter what season it is. Whilst its architecture is of golden days past, the hotel is bang up to date and offers free Wi-Fi for all - oh and an outdoor swimming pool open during the summer months.

Sleeping

As you would expect all our rooms are en-suite and comfortably arranged with a hospitality tray, remote control colour TV, hairdryer and direct dial telephone as standard. Many of our rooms offer wonderful views over the Camel Estuary, the working harbour or the town.

Our 10 Premier rooms are super and very individual. Some have 4 poster beds or private patio access or balconies and one offers the best sea views for miles around. All of these rooms offer enveloping, fluffy bathrobes, mineral water and other thoughtful extras.

Our Select rooms all offer estuary or harbour views and our Standard rooms offer comfortable accommodation but with inland views.

Eating

As expected in Padstow we cook great food - the quality of the ingredients we can get locally is very high so we are morally bound to do the best we can with it.

Naturally we feature fish quite heavily on our menus but there is plenty of meat and non meat choice available. We run a seasonal menu with a smaller daily changing choice and everyone is welcome to mix and match the two menus. The AA has recognised our kitchen skills with the award of a prestigious Rosette but do come and see for yourselves.

Our Met Café Bar is ideal for light lunch, cream tea or a less formal dinner. This menu is also available on our Sun Deck, weather permitting.

Not only do we have good food but our wine selection is also commendable. We deal primarily with a local merchant and the personal attention given to selection and accompanying advice is thorough.

Seeing and Visiting

There is a lot to do in and around Padstow. There are plenty of shops ranging from quirky and individual craft, gift shops and galleries to select speciality shops. The narrow lanes are ideal for meandering around where quaint cottages and buildings abound. The working harbour is always a hive of activity.

The gentle, rolling hills that surround Padstow offer some lovely walks and views and there is a little ferry you can take over to salubrious Rock to explore both sides of the estuary coastline.

The beaches in the area are excellent with seven different ones just around Padstow before you even think about heading down to the more active water sport havens of Watergate and Fistral nearer Newquay!

If you don't feel like getting your feet wet try the Camel Trail, a beautiful 18 mile old railway track where you can walk or cycle as much as you like - hire a bike fro Padstow Cycle Hire and take your time or walk to Wadebridge and get the bus back.

If all this talk of activity sounds a bit too much there are great attractions nearby. Easily within an hour you can be in the Eden Project or the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock House or Pencarrow - not forgetting our own Prideaux Place here in Padstow.

We have excellent golf courses on the doorstep and of course annual events such as The Royal Cornwall Show, May Day and the Party in the Park at Prideaux Place that are not to be missed.
