Ambleside is within the Lake District National Park. Many walks and cycle rides can be started directly from The Melrose and it is a perfect base to explore the Lake District. The town boasts a fantastic array of fine restaurants and places to dine. There are many amenities close by such as White Platt putting green, tennis courts, bowling green, Rothay Park, and water sports on Lake Windermere. The local hills, Loughrigg and Wansfell afford fantastic views of Lake Windermere so it's well worth the effort of climbing them.
