The MacDonald Hotel is situated at the foot of the Mamore Mountains, at the head of Loch Leven, providing a stunningly beautiful setting, which was selected to open the latest Rob Roy movie. Loch Leven and the River Leven form the glen between its more famous neighbours Glen Coe and Ben Nevis. The MacDonald Hotel is on the northwestern edge of the village of Kinlochleven, where the West Highland Way begins its climb towards Fort William.
The hotel is a great base no matter what your budget. It has 10 en-suite bedrooms, 9 all-season 4-bunk cabins, and a campsite for up to 11 two-man tents; and has a bar with Sky Sports competing with the view down the loch, a restaurant and a lounge bar. All guests have access to the drying room, laundry room and potwash.
Within the hotel we have 10 bedrooms which all have ensuite facilities with baths and showers. We have: 5 twin rooms (2 single beds) 4 double rooms (1 double bed) 1 Family room (1 double bed and 1 single bed)
We also have rollaway beds which can be added to a room if required. A cot is also available on request. All rooms are independently heated and have a colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Twin and double rooms cost £84 including breakfast - £64 low season - £55 and £40 for single occupancy
We have nine 4-bunk all season cabins which offer an alternative for the outdoor enthusiast.
Each cabin has:
4 bunk beds with matress and pillow, but no bedding (sleeping bags and linen can be rented) Hot Showers and toilets are located at the back of the hotel, about 30 yards from the cabins. In summer, the cabin cost ranges from £10 per person per night when 4 people share a cabin, to £18 per night for single occupancy. In Winter the cost is £10 per person per night regardless of the number in the cabin. A sleeping bag with linen can be rented for £2. A towel for £1. Each party has sole use of the cabin that they book.
The quiet campsite is situated immediately to the rear of the hotel beside the landscaped tidal creek, and only 100 metres from the West Highland Way.
Campers have the use of all the facilities, which include: toilets, free hot showers, drying room.
As well as having easy access to the Bothy Bar for bar meals in the evening, camper's breakfasts are served in the bar each morning. A full Scottish breakfast is available for just £6.00.
The campsite also gives fantastic views down the loch. The camping fee is just £6.00 per person per night.
The Bothy Bar is the main bar of the hotel. It is used by residents, campers and non-residents as a social meeting point. With our solid fuel stove you can be sure of a warm welcome whatever the weather!
We have a wide selection of beers, lagers, spirits and over 40 brands of malt whisky! The Bothy Bar contains a number of entertainment facilities, such as a pool table, a dart board, a trivia game computer and a computer with internet access. It also has a large projecting screen on which we can show all the big games on Sky Sports. Free WiFi is provided.
The MacDonald Hotel Restaurant is the perfect place for that special meal. We have a wide choice of Highland dishes, as well as a range of bar favourites and daily blackboard specials, such as West Coast salmon, Lochaber lamb, Glencoe chicken and venison fillet frequently feature on the menu.
All of our dishes are prepared from fresh local produce, where practicable, and are presented to a high standard.
