| Welcome to our Self Catering Accommodation at Ludlow Castle in Shropshire. Dating from 1086, Ludlow Castle has been privately owned by the Earls of Powis since 1811. Castle House has recently been fully renovated to provide the very highest standards of quality and luxury. For a self-catering holiday with a real difference… Our accommodation comprises three self catering apartments - "The Prince Arthur and Catherine of Aragon", "The Sir Henry Sidney" and "The Comus". We are dedicated to providing a professional and welcoming service at Castle House, which is set in the beautiful South Shropshire countryside. |
| The Prince Arthur and Catherine of Aragon Apartment 2 Bedroom self-catering holiday apartment Ludlow Castle Shropshire. Sleeps: 4 (+1 child on 'camp bed') Dining: 8 Rating:5 Star This grand and spacious apartment is on the first floor of Castle House, with some internal stairs leading one around a curious circular route of the apartment.
Bathroom 1 The Beacon Tower bathroom adjoining this bedroom has a free standing roll- topped claw -footed bath and separate walk- in shower… a truly unusual bathroom. Bedroom 2 Bedroom 2, has twin beds, and overlooks Castle House garden and the castle's outer bailey. There is space in Bedroom 2 for a "camp bed", but this is only suitable for a child. Bathroom 2 The bathroom opposite this bedroom has bath and over- bath shower.
Smoking and Pets Smoking and pets are not allowed in this apartment. Car Parking There is one designated car parking space for this apartment. Prince Arthur - History Prince Arthur (1485-1502), the popular elder son of King Henry VII, following a proxy marriage in 1499 to Catherine of Aragon spent four months at Ludlow Castle on his honeymoon before his death on 2 April 1502. Catherine returned to London and some years later married his brother Henry VIII. |

Sleeps: 4 Dining: 8 Rating:5 Star The Sir Henry Sidney apartment is situated on the first floor of Castle House and these handsome rooms have views over the castle's outer bailey towards Whitcliffe, a local beauty spot - which itself grants visitors to Ludlow stunning views of the town and Clee Hill.
Bedroom 2 with En-Suite Bathroom Bedroom 2 has twin beds, an en suite bathroom, with over- bath shower. A lovely window seat adds a relaxing feature to this room. As bathrooms are accessed via bedrooms this apartment is best suited for single family occupation. Smoking & Pets Smoking is not allowed. A maximum of two dogs are allowed in this apartment (£3.00 per dog, per night) Car Parking There is one designated car parking space for this apartment. Sir Henry Sidney - History Sir Henry Sidney, Lord President of the Council of the Marches (1559-1586), probably built The Judges' Lodgings (in the inner bailey of the castle) to accommodate the many judges, attorneys and clerks who needed to live or stay at the castle when the courts of the Council of the Marches were in session. His coat of arms can be seen above the entrance to the inner bailey when crossing the moat. |

The apartment provides accommodation bursting with character and charm, more akin to a cottage.
The apartment benefits from a flat screen TV with DVD player and Sky TV (free channels), plus a micro hi-fi system with Dab radio and CD player.We plan to provide Broadband Internet access in due course, please enquire about current status when booking.
Bedroom 2 Just like bedroom 1 this bedroom has twin beds - set in the eaves with sloped ceilings and has the same wonderful ambience. Bathroom 2 The compact bathroom for bedroom 2 is across the landing, with bath and hand shower. Dining Area The dining area is situated on the landing at the entrance to the apartment - with natural light from a newly- installed roof window. Kitchen The kitchen is compact but fully fitted, with views across Ludlow. Appliances: Gas hob and electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine/drier, fridge/freezer and all essential utensils. This apartment is on the second floor and has a second "emergency exit" staircase. Smoking and Pets Smoking and pets are not allowed. Car Parking There is one designated car parking space for this apartment. Comus History John Milton (1604-1674) wrote Comus, his world famous "masque" in 1634, and it was first performed at Ludlow Castle on 29 September 1634 before the Right Honourable John Earl of Bridgwater, Lord President of the Wales. There have been further performances of Comus in the castle over the centuries; the last of these, in 1959, was attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, and its success led to the beginning of the annual Ludlow Festival in 1960. |

Celebration Hampers For an extra charge special occasion hampers can be tailored to your individual requirement, if requested in advance.Complimentary Entrance To Ludlow Castle During your stay we will provide a pass, for each occupant of your apartment, allowing one free admission to visit Ludlow Castle-to explore and enjoy this magnificent historic monument - the real treasure on your doorstep! Browser Pack Fully up to-date information about all the amenities in the area with suggestions for days out to suit all the family is provided. An inventory is included, we ask guests to report breakages or missing items so that they can be replaced without delay. Castle Tea Room, Castle House On your doorstep our own Tea Room - providing a fine selection of meals using locally- sourced produce in attractive and comfortable surroundings. The beds will be made up with sheets and duvets and pillowcases when you arrive. We provide one hand and one bath towel per bed per week. Blankets are provided. Toiletries A complimentary range of essential toiletries will be provided in every bathroom. Car Parking Parking in Ludlow town centre can be difficult. However, each apartment comes with one designated parking space at the entrance to Castle House. Service Cleaning/Maid Service Service cleaning is complimentary when staying for 8 nights or more. We will arrange a mutually suitable time to change linens and supply a fresh set of towels. Cots and High Chairs 1 travel cot (without linen) and 1 high chair (with harness) are available for each apartment. There will be no charge for these items, if booked in advance. Pets Dogs are allowed in The Sir Henry Sidney Apartment only to a maximum of 2. We will make a charge of £3 per dog, per night. Sorry no cats or other pets and, out of courtesy to future guests, we ask pet owners to ensure that the property and surrounding grounds are left clean. Heating All electricity and gas are included in the rent. Heating is usually switched off between mid-May and mid-September, but can be turned on if required. Utility Bills There is no charge for heating or electricity. Local and National calls only are included in the price. On the outskirts of Ludlow you will find a leisure centre, golf course, race course and our beautiful Marches countryside. The soft rolling hills are ideal for walking, cycling, nature trails, fishing and shooting. A short trip by car will bring you to the Welsh border, only eight miles from Ludlow. Within an hour you can also drive to the World Heritage site at Ironbridge Gorge. Ludlow Castle is at the heart of this fine medieval market town, winner of the Best Town in England 2007 and the first town to be presented with the prestigious Cittaslow award in the British Isles, recognising the quality of life in Ludlow. Events throughout the year at Ludlow Castle Ludlow Castle is home to Ludlow's major festivals during the year - a full listing of these can be found on www.ludlowcastle.com/events . The major festivals are: Ludlow Festival Held annually during the last week of June and the first week of July, with an open-air Shakespeare play in the grounds as its highlight.
