About Us
~ ~ ~ ~ ~

'Low Penhowe' is old Yorkshire dialect for 'the sheep pen on a hill'. Today, the house has been described as "a very elegant home" by the English Tourist Council, which has awarded owners Philippa and Christopher Turner the Council's 5 Stars and the Gold award for their outstanding Yorkshire B&B. For the last two years we have been awarded "Yorkshire Finalist for Guest Accommodation of the Year"

A traditional Yorkshire stone-built farmhouse, with stunning views overlooking the Howardian Hills, Yorkshire Wolds and across to the North Yorkshire Moors, the house makes an idyllic spot for a quiet few nights away.

Low Penhowe is also the perfect location for anyone wishing to enter into the hustle and bustle of York, while enjoying the peace and tranquillity of rural England.

We pride ourselves on the excellence of our Aga cooked breakfasts, offering a variety of local and homemade produce. Enjoy a selection of our own free-range eggs, and from our butcher, locally cured bacon, black pudding and sausages. Even the tomatoes and mushrooms are all sourced locally. As an alternative our guests are able to enjoy kippers from Bridlington and home roasted York ham. To finish off your breakfast we offer homemade marmalade and jams, home baked bread and honey from village farms. We are proud to have been awarded our "Deliciously Yorkshire Breakfast" seal of approval; more recently have been awarded "2006 Breakfast Champion's of the UK and "Taste of Yorkshire Finalist" for our commitment to the promotion of delicious, healthy breakfasts using regional produce!
