Location
Historic Llechwen Hall About one and a half miles on the road to Llanfabon from Abercynon lies Llechwen Hall. The name is probably derived from Llechfan, a place of shelter or refuge. Behind the Victorian House, which was built in 1905, are very old buildings dating back to at least the 17th century. The walls, some of which are 4ft thick with narrow embrasures, the low ceilinged kitchen with its stout blackened oak beams and huge fireplace, the stone roofs and the cow-house and dairy, which once led from the kitchen (as in old Welsh farms) all have the appearance of having been built at a time when houses were built to last for centuries. (Extract from The Story of Abercynon by Thomas Evans, 1955.)
A Haven of Tranquillity on the Hillside Vistors from further afield find Llechwen Hall the ideal base for exploring the region: The Brecon Beacons offer outdoor pursuits at all levels only 15 minutes away while 10 excellent golf clubs are within similar reach. The buzz of Cardiff is a 20-minute drive away and our staff would be happy to advise on walks right from the hotel or suggestions on the many craft museums and other local attractions within easy reach by car.
