| Traditional Counrty Fayre Meets haute cuisine - well, almost! Some travel miles for a huge bowl of steaming mussels, hand picked from beds nearby or for a very special plate of fish and chips with its crisp real ale beer batter - two ever present dishes from our extensive bar menu. Some prefer to select from the day's specials board, based on what's been caught, shot, picked or dug locally each day. Others choose to enjoy a three course meal in our full service restaurant accompanied by wine from an interesting and imaginative list, selected predominantly from small growers and bijou vineyards.  Everything for a comfortable stay. The Life Boat Inn has been receiving guests since the 16th Century - although we like to think that our facilities now are a little more up-to-date than our earlier visitors experienced! The Inn's original character has been carefully preserved throughout. In each of our 14 bedrooms this is combined with en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, televisions, hair dryers, telephones, and comfortable pine furniture. We welcome reasonably behaved dogs and all children! We provide the sort of breakfast that will keep you to keep up with your dog on the way to the beach! It may also get your first tee shot, at Hunstanton, over the large awaiting bunker!! |
| There is a great deal to see and do around Thornham - and a great night's sleep is essential. The surrounding area offers a multitude of interesting places to see and activities to enjoy. Holkham Hall, Sandringham House or Nelson's birthplace at nearby Burnham Thorpe are just a few of the many historic locations nearby. A drive down the coast will take you to many little fishing villages with picturesque quaysides- not to mention all sorts of little shops, galleries and surprises. Golfers can test their ability on one of the country's top Championship Links at Hunstanton where the English Amateur Championship was held recently. There is also the equally challenging Royal West Norfolk course at Brancaster only 5 minutes drive from the Inn. Should you wish to make a week of it, there are fine courses within easy reach of Sheringham, King's Lynn and Cromer. Bird watchers, walkers and nature lovers are spoilt for choice. A walk from our front door will take you to Thornham beach in no time at all and onto the Holme Nature Reserve. The Titchwell Marsh Nature Reserve is 12 miles away and Snettisham, Blackeney, Holkham and Cley Nature Reserves are all within short driving distance. There are numerous and varied walks along miles of open beaches, across sweeping sand dunes, through pine woods or along chalk and sandstone cliff tops. It is truly a walker's paradise- especially if you're a dog! For more nautical guests there is always (ask the golfers - a fair breeze and Brancaster Staithe has all the facilities for dinghy sailing. Hunstanton is now one of the busiest windsurfing centres in Britain. From the cliffs it is rare, come rain or sine, not to see windsurfers whizzing along 'on the crest of a wave'. |

It's a delightful and relatively undiscovered little corner of Norfolk that's just waiting for you. To reach us from London, take the M11 to Cambridge, then head for King's Lynn, via Ely, by following the A10.Take the King's Lynn by-pass until you reach the A149 to Hustanton, then following the signs to Thornham, along the coastal road. On reaching Thornham, turn left into Staithe Lane, follow the road round to the right The Lifeboat Inn is then found easily on your right. |
