Lickbarrow Lodge is a country house at the edge of a private, five-acre woodland, on a quiet county road just 1 mile from Windermere and Bowness villages. The house, built in 1912, was recently renovated and granted a Civic Society Award. The owners have been most careful to preserve and enhance the original Arts and Crafts features, the hallmarks of which are simple design, beautiful materials and fine craftsmanship. Lickbarrow Lodge is not an hotel, nor a guest-house - the house is our own home in which we offer the choice of Bed & Breakfast or Self-Catering accommodation in either our unique self-contained studio apartment or the charming guest-room. Breakfast is served at the large oak table in the Library where, in cooler weather, we light a log fire.

Lickbarrow Lodge has plenty of private off-road parking. Guests are welcome to explore our extensive grounds, mostly natural mixed woodland, where you will discover a network of pathways and glades providing total seclusion. Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and the Langdale Pikes are seen from the garden. Just a short stroll away, footpaths lead up to local viewpoints for magnificent Lakeland panoramas and stunning mountain sunsets.

Lickbarrow Lodge is situated high above Windermere and Bowness, yet both villages are just a 20-minute walk away. Windermere is a very convenient base for exploring the whole of the Lake District National Park. We are walkers (Adrian is a local guide), sailors and cyclists, so we can offer plenty of advice on things to do and places to go, including our favourite Lakeland pubs. Our aim is to help you make the most of your visit to the Lake District - the most beautiful corner of England.

The Studio is available for either Self-Catering or Bed and Breakfast. It has a private entrance opening into the single-room apartment. Guests choosing the self-catering option may use the ingenious concealed IKEA mini-kitchen, equipped with two ring hob, combination microwave oven, refrigerator and sink. Cooking pots, crockery, cutlery and glassware are provided. Bed & Breakfast guests are provided with tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. The living area has a dining table and chairs, sofa, TV and DVD. The bedroom area has a double bed, beside which is a beautiful French cast- iron stove (the house is, of course, fully centrally-heated). The sofa converts into an occasional bed, ideal for children. The en-suite shower-room has a powerful multi-head shower, WC and hand basin. French windows open on to the courtyard, delightful for evening drinks.
