| You'd have to venture a long, long way to discover a hotel as idyllically situated as Langdale Chase. This magnificent country home commands panoramic and inspirational views of lake and mountains from the seclusion of its own wooded grounds on the gentle shores of Lake Windermere. It is difficult to imagine a more rewarding way to enjoy the natural splendour of one of Britain's and Europe's most beautiful regions. But a delightful setting and scenery that moved Wordsworth to describe the Lakes as "The loveliest spot that man hath ever found" are not the only reasons to stay at Langdale Chase. The hotel has so much more to offer. |
![]() | Adventure Just 3 miles north of Windermere and 2 miles south of Ambleside, the hotel is situated in the heart of Lakeland. Bathing, water skiing and rowing boat facilities and horse racing are all available nearby. |
| History Large, imposing stately rooms oak panelled and mellowed with the years, a collection of fine oil paintings, ornate carved fireplaces and the magnificent oak staircase tell their own story of a hotel rich in history and character. The first foundation stone for the building itself was laid in 1890 and the house took some five years to complete. It was first opened as a hotel in 1930. However, there are carvings and artefacts in the hotel which actually date as far back as 1664. Blessed with so many architectural and decorative examples of our heritage, not to mention hidden treasures such as the original mosaic floors in the porch which were laid by craftsmen brought over specially from Italy, the house is listed as one of National and Historic Interest. And of course, the Lake District is steeped in history. From Langdale Chase you don't have to go far to walk in the steps of Coleridge, Walpole, Shelley, Ruskin, Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. |
| Total Relaxation At Langdale Chase it's so easy to leave all the troubles of the world behind. You can choose to take a leisurely stroll through the hotel grounds - widely ackowledged to be amongst the most beautiful and extensive gardens in the Lake District.Combine the art of conversion with friendly rivalry on the hotel's putting green. Most have lake views and all have private bathrooms. All are equipped with colour TV, radio, telephone and tea and coffee making facilities. Further accommodation is provided by a Lakeland stone garden bungalow.
