| Southampton Come visit Southampton whether on business or pleasure you will find lots to see and do. Enjoy our lovely parks. Discover old Southampton by walking the magnificent town walls, along the train, where the pilgrims left bound for America. At the Mayflower memorial you will find the Maritime Museum where you can find out all about the past and present ocean liners that sailed out of Southampton, including the Titanic. From the Town Quay take a ferry across the water to Hythe or to the Isle of Wight or take a harbour trip. Along the Waterfront visit Mayflower Park to watch the ships and enjoy afternoon tea. In September you can visit the International Boat Show. Southampton has a very busy shopping centre, including the new £270 million, 53 acre site of West Quay. Take time to visit Southampton the entertainment capital of the south, whether it be a visit to our art gallery or to a show at the Mayflower theatre, Gantry Arts Centre, the Guildhall or a play at the Nuffield theatre or Turner Simms Concert Hall. There is a 13 screen cinema at Leisure World and another 5 screen cinema at Ocean Village to catch the latest film releases. Southampton is an ideal touring base for seeing the south coast. Journey through the picturesquely New Forest, stop off at Beaulieu to visit Lord Montague's motor museum, onto the coast to Lymington. North are the Cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury. Don't miss Broadlands at Romsey. On the east of the city is the maritime heritage port of Portsmouth. Not forgetting all animal lovers, a trip to Marwell Zoo, Longdown Dairy Farm and the Otter and Owl Sanctuary at Colbury. Families would enjoy a visit to Paultons Park, to try out over forty different attractions and rides for a day to remember. |
