Out and About :
The views from the farmhouse are beautiful; across the valley, which is wooded, to the high fells of the Howgills.
A handwritten Guide book suggests interesting places to visit and some favourite walks: easy with gentle slopes, woodland walks, fell walks and challenging walks along the mountain ridge; all from the cottage. A few minutes' drive takes you to the start of one of Wainwright's walks into Borrowdale which is beautiful all year round.

As you would expect in such an unspoilt area, there is a wonderful variety of wild birds; there are badger setts in the woods and occasional sightings of roe and red deer.

Travelling a little further afield, Haweswater, Ullswater and Windermere are the nearest lakes and are about half-an-hour's drive. In the opposite direction there is some beautiful Dales countryside and the pretty village of Dent is about twenty minutes by car.

There are many quaint little villages nearby with good restaurants and several country pubs, which serve excellent meals. Wonderful walks, far from the crowds, start straight from the door yet within 35 minutes' drive are all the amenities of the central Lake District.
