The best way to enter Coldstream is over Coldstream Bridge which crosses the Silvery River Tweed. The river is the border between Scotland and England, so half way across the bridge you enter Scotland. Don't worry, a passport is not required.
The town is best known as the birthplace of the Coldstream Guards. The history of the Guards is depicted in the local museum, along with other interesting historical and modern topics.
The Hirsel Estate offers both woodland and lakeside walks. It also has craft workshops, museum and coffee shop.
Fancy a round of golf? Well you have come to the right place. The Hirsel course has 18 holes and a modern Club House. It is one of the best in the Borders.
Coldstream is an ideal base for visiting nearby Historic Houses & Stately Homes.
Ruins of Abbeys can be found at Kelso, Dryburgh, Melrose and Jedburgh, which are only a short drive from Coldstream.
Horse riding has quite an active following in the Borders, and riding lessons are available at most of the local stables.
As the River Tweed flows through the town, fishing is quite a popular hobby bringing people from far and wide.
Permits to fish on the river can be obtained from the town.
If you want to go shopping, there is a variety of shops, some selling locally made goods, in Coldstream. Edinburgh and Newcastle are only 60 minutes away.
Alternatively you might just want to come and relax and breathe in some fresh Scottish air.
