Discovering The Cotswolds ... Cirencester only 4 miles from Fountain View and known as 'The Capital of The Cotswolds' is a lively market town. It holds a market twice a week. Unfortunately little of the Roman buildings have survived but the Amphitheatre is well worth a visit. The church of St John the Baptist dominates the horizon. It has a varied selection of shops and places to eat. If you prefer there are the Abbey Grounds, Cirencester Park, and The Corinium Museum. The Slaughters are just off the Roman Fosse Way and wonderfully conserved typical Cotswold villages. Stow-on- the-Wold There is an enclosed square due to its high elevation. The King's Arms is a good example of a coaching inn where Charles 1 is reputed to have stayed. The Royalist Hotel is said to be the oldest in England. The narrow streets have a fascinating array of shops including many antique shops and some wonderful buildings. We can only give you a taste here but are sure you will not want to leave! |
