SET in in quiet woodland Fleatham House is a house that has probably heard many government and business secrets. Harold Wilson, William Whitelaw and James Callaghan are just a few of the politicians and leading businessmen that have wined and dined in the relaxing atmosphere of Fleatham House.

Now the team that have for so long successfully run the former Marchon corporate hospitality guest house have raised the capital to buy the business from outgoing firm, Rhodia.

The imposing red sandstone house was originally built for a wealthy Lincolnshire businessman and was acquired by the joint founder of Marchon (later Albright and Wilson), Lord Schon, in 1950.Lord Schon was a leading light in the group of emigre businessmen who brought new industry to a West Cumbria.Businessmen and policiticians were entertained by Marchon at the guest house whenever they have needed to stay in West Cumbria.

Among the great and good invited by Lord Schon to use the relaxing atmosphere have been yachtsman Robin Knox Johnston and musicians and stars of stage and screen.

St Bees village enjoys both a small intimate beach and foreshore and the rural charm of a village on the western fringes of the English Lake District. The clifftop walks of St Bees Head afford views across to the Isle of Man and provide nesting for many rare breeds including rare sighting of colourful Puffins. The village is also on the start points for the Coast to Coast footpath made famous by Wainwright.
